RM202.30

Grape Varieties: Merlot 95%, Cabernet Franc 5%

JAMES SUCKLING
91/100
Love the clarity to this second wine of Nenin with
strawberry and cherry aromas that follow through to a full
to medium body, a solid core of fruit and very polished
tannins. Drink in 2020.

VINOUS / ANTONIO GALLONI

The 2014 Fugue de Nenin is a soft, fruity wine to drink now
and over the next few years, while the flavors remain
vibrant. Crushed flowers, smoke and sweet spices lead into
the juicy, inviting finish.

WINE ENTHUSIAST
90/100
With low yields after a hail storm, the wine is concentrated
and dense. It has a touch of wood aging as well as dark
black fruits. The tannins are firm in a wine that will age
well over the medium term. Drink from 2023. Roger Voss.

WINE SPECTATOR / JAMES MOLESWORTH

A relatively fresh, open style, with a beam of raspberry
confiture riding through, backed by red licorice and sweet
incense notes. Offers a polished finish. Drink now through
2022.

Description

Fugue de Nénin was created and first sold in 1997. Fugue comes from sandy-clay soils found in the eastern part of the Château’s vineyards, as well as from the young vines planted on the great plateau terroirs. This second wine is a typical example of the charm of Pomerol. Fugue is a reference to music; it means a repetition of the main theme. This name makes sense when you taste the wine – Fugue complements the tonalities of its older sibling extremely well, while providing its own attractive and entertaining rendition. The wines are smooth and silky and can be enjoyed earlier than those of the Grand Vin.

Vintage 2014

After a relatively early budburst that followed the wet and mild winter, the coolness of May delayed the flowering and brought the dates of 2014 back around the averages of the past ten years. Stormy showers punctuated June, July and August but kinder weather set in from 15th August and lasted through September, with beautiful sunny days that created a good hydric stress. This brought smoothness to the tannins developing in the skins and pips, especially on the property’s excellent clay-gravel soils. Special care was
taken of the vineyard throughout the year to counteract any potential negative impact of the regular rainfall. Grass cover, de-leafing and early thinning out at the beginning of colour change ensured the bunches could ripen evenly and remain perfectly healthy until harvest time.
