Dark plums, incense, burnt thyme, cedar and chalk. It’s full-bodied with fine tannins. Structured and chewy with a firm texture. Blend of tempranillo, graciano and maturana tinta. A little reserved still. Drink from 2022.

Description

Izadi means “Nature”. This is reflected in the care and respect that the bodega shows for the fruits of its natural surroundings.

Izadi History

In 1987, Gonzalo Antón, together with a group of friends and business people from nearby Vitoria, began a groundbreaking project in deepest Rioja Alavesa. The village of Villabuena de Alava, where his family already grew grapes, was chosen as the location for the innovative bodega which would focus on making fine wine.

At the same time, the introduction of new winemaking techniques and continuous improvements in quality set a house style over time.

When Lalo Antón joined the company in 2000 it expanded and began to increase its exports. Projects, such as Finca Villacreces (D.O. Ribera del Duero), Bodegas Vetus (D.O. Toro) and Orben (D.O.Ca. Rioja), were undertaken under the name Artevino.

Gonzalo’s knowledge of hotels and restaurants soon made Izadi one of the most highly-regarded wines in gastronomic circles.

VINEYARD: Selection of the low yields best parcels out of the triangle between Villabuena, Samaniego and Abalos with an average of 60 yeards old.

GRAPE VARIETY: 80% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano.

AGING: 16 months of French oak barrels “a petite grain”. 75% French oak and 25% American oak.

TASTING NOTES: Bright ruby intense color. High aromatic intensity with hints of well assembled red fruit layers. Mineral and spicy character. Expressive and tasty in the mouth with persistent, long and balanced finish.
