Description
Inspired by Argentina’s sensuality and passion
Kaiken Obertura was inspired by the passion and sensuality of Argentina. It’s the same passion that led us to explore and innovate, that motivated us to be bold and to create this pure Cabernet Franc from brush-trained vines. It stands out as a lively, vibrant wine with lots of character.
WINE ATTRIBUTES
Intente, ruby-red colour, with glimpses of subtle, elegant violet. The very complex nose shows notes of ripe redcurrant, fresh plum, and red pepper, together with spicy notes of black pepper and clove. The concentration and structure are very balanced. On the palate freshness and bright acidity prevail, accompanied by a sensation of minerality that characterizes the grapes grown at high-altitudes and on rocky soils. The finish is long and elegant.
Vineyards
Los Chacayes, Uco Valley.- Location and altitude: 100 km to the south of Mendoza, at 1,250 metres (4,101 feet) above sea level.- Climate: 250–350 mm annual precipitation. Temperate climate; severe winters and warm summers, with cool nights. Diurnal temperature range is about 15º–20ºC (27º–36ºF) during the ripening period.- Soil: Rocky, mixed with coarse sand and some lime. Low fertility. Permeable.- Style of wine: Intense colour. Deep spice and mineral notes. Pronounced tannins.
Winemaking
Hand harvested into 15 kg boxes in April. Manual selection of bunches at the winery. Pre-fermentation maceration for 7 days at 10ºC (50ºF). Alcoholic fermentation lasted 7 days at 26ºC (79ºF) in concrete tanks using
Harvest 2017
The summer and autumn were rather dry, which meant a healthy harvest. Yields were lower than normal, which together with average temperatures just below historical highs, resulted in earlier ripening. The 2017 wines generally are concentrated, with a fresh style, good acidity, and excellent fruit and floral expression.

Total acidity (H2SO4): 4.1 g/L
Residual sugar: 1.9 g/L pH: 3.6
