Tasting Notes:

Intense ruby red color with violet rim. The nose is intense, elegant and complex. The aromas of fresh red and black berries stand out against a delicately floral background reminiscent of violets. Toasted notes and dulce de leche appear together with subtle hints of dairy and vanilla. On the palate, it’s very balanced with rounded tannins and generous volume. It has rich natural acidity that makes it a juicy wine on the midpalate. The finish is elegant, leaving us with smooth, pleasing sweet sensations for a long time.

Food Pairing:

Food Pairing: This Malbec pairs very well with most red and white meats, although it has a special affinity with grilled pork and chicken, especially with barbecue sauce. It is also very good with beef stew, spicy beef, and Mexican mole dishes.

Critic Reviews

92 Points – JamesSuckling.com 2021 – Vintage 2019

Mulberries, plums, dark cherries, cloves and dried flowers on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, plush tannins. Round and velvety with juicy, concentrated layers of spiced fruit. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

91 Points – Wine Enthusiast

This Malbec sourced from Apalta and Marchigue regions in Colchagua Valley, displays plum and blackberry aromas with hints of black pepper and struck-match notes. The palate features intense fruit flavors and has a mineral character. It has soft tannins and good acidity to freshen the medium-long finish. Jesica Vargas

Description

VINEYARDS

The vineyards that produce the grapes for our Montes Alpha Malbec are located in our Apalta and Marchigüe estates in the Colchagua Valley. Both properties have soils of granitic origin with different degrees of decomposition and varying depths and amounts of clay and organic matter. The Apalta estate soils are very mixed, with some parcels strongly influenced by the nearby Tinguiririca River, while others exhibit material brought down from long-term geological erosion of the mountain above. The soils tend to be deep in the flatter areas and thinner at the foot of the mountain and in the upper sectors. The Malbec vines are located in moderately-sloping areas, where the soils are of medium depth, have low moisture retention, and contain materials of fluvial origin.
The Marchigüe estate is flatter, with low hills and moderate slopes. The soils are shallow—in some cases no more than 60 cm deep – with medium clay content and a high capacity for water retention. The Malbec vineyards are located in the flat areas that contain a high percentage of rounded stones (fluvial material) and are poor in clay.
Our Montes Alpha Malbec contains equal proportions of fruit from our Finca de Apalta and Marchigüe estates.
